Morris Blumstein
Oct 23, 1984      כ"ז תשרי תשמ"ה

Morris "Moish" Blumstein was born in South Philadelphia to Eastern European immigrants, Samuel and Sophie Cook Blumstein, on November 11, 1918, the day WWI ended. He was named Shalom Moshe in honor of the peace. Morris grew up in South Philadelphia and graduated from South Philadelphia High School and Temple University. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served as a Morse Code operator. Instead of “running with the bulls”, he was running from wild boars in the Solomon Islands where he contracted malaria. Following the war, he married Ruth Gordon on his 27th birthday. He and Ruth had two children, Rochelle and Fredric Jay.

Morris was a most unselfish man. He dedicated his life to his family and career—over 30 years with the Federal Government at the Defense Industrial Supply Center in Philadelphia, retiring from the Directorate of Technical Operations. He attended services on a regular basis at B’nai Halberstam, B'nai Torah, and Pennypack Jewish Center. After his retirement, he attended daily minyan. He had a strong interest in sports and politics. He was extremely active in the Far Northeast Athletic Association (Little League) where he received numerous awards of recognition. Morris passed away on October 23, 1984 at the age of 65.
