Ruth Blumstein

Ruth "Ruchal" Gordon Blumstein was born in Philadelphia on September 29, 1927 to Abraham and Lena Cohen Gordon (Zardonaska), immigrants from Eastern Europe. Ruth was a very ebullient person who enjoyed life to the fullest. She graduated from the Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1945. Following her graduation, she married Morris Blumstein on his birthday, November 11th. They had two children, Rochelle and Fredric Jay. After raising her children and caring for her down syndrome sister, Adele "Dolly”, Ruth was able to fulfill her lifelong desire to attend college. She graduated from Temple University with a degree in elementary education. She taught at the Fairhill School in Philadelphia until her retirement. Ruth was active in many charities, and most devoted to Hadassah, Allied Jewish Appeal and synagogues-- B’nai Halberstam, B’nai Torah, and Pennypack Jewish Center. Ruth passed away on October 5, 1982 at the age of 55.
